The British people, the Commonwealth of Nations, and parts of the historic British Empire welcomed the young Queen of England as she ascended to the throne 70 years ago. Aged just 25, she promised, as she stepped into her father’s shoes and those of over a millennium of British sovereigns, to dedicate her life to the service of her subjects. And serve she did. Through 15 prime ministers from Churchill to Truss; through triumphs and disasters; through prosperous times and poor, Queen Elizabeth II led her subjects and the people of the Commonwealth of Nations with grace and dignity. Always revered, never distant, she offered advice to world leaders and bestowed honors on janitors.
Her Majesty’s gift was to make her immensely important work guiding the nation from behind the scenes look effortless. May her good work and dedicated service continue.
Inspired by her may we all live such a life of service.
The Pimm’s & Poppies Chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire in Virginia offers our condolences to the Royal Family, the British people, and the members of the Commonwealth of Nations who mourn this day.
May she rest in peace. Well done thou true and faithful servant.
Long Live the King!
